Like all humans, we constantly evaluate our lives and often compare ourselves to others. Often this is just like a background programme running. Maybee we are using internal dialogue that  is negative and self-limiting. This is also fuelled by our perception of whom we believe ourselves to be. This is based on what we believe about the past, our interpretations and evaluations of our experiences.  When we feel confident and good about ourselves, the world is different, with many opportunities for mental, emotional, and spiritual fulfilment. But when, as human beings, we are in a negative state of being, we often cannot see our way out because of the mindset that accompanies this belief.

That negative voice in our heads is a lack of confidence and self-esteem, which most people will deal with from time to time. Creating healthy self-esteem and confidence, navigating through low self-esteem and feeling better about yourself can be incredibly difficult, especially without help. Confidence can be impacted by many things in your life, all of which create thought patterns in your subconscious designed to keep you safe. These beliefs can be very pervasive and seem like our absolute reality. For example, you might struggle in an exam. Your mind then creates these negative thoughts around the subject, repeating them every time they come up until they are programmed to be true. Your unconscious will try to protect you from the negative feelings of being evaluated. These defensive interpretations may literally say you cannot do something and that you shouldn't even try because perhaps you don't want to feel judged - creating a different kind of negative thought pattern for you to deal with. Over time, this can have a major impact on our self-esteem and follow us through life as our reality. A lack of confidence can affect us in different ways, as below.

There is a strong link between Lack of Confidence and earlier emotional challenges, particularly in childhood and the earlier years of adulthood when we are more easily influenced. That doesn't necessarily have to mean abuse or neglect; it can be subtle developmental factors that we are all exposed to that could prime us to react negatively.
 
It is important to remember that most people who experience moments when they feel a lack of confidence as a problem know that they don't want to do this. Unfortunately, just knowing this logically may not help in the moment. At this point, the reaction may seem automatic, and crucially, in the moment, it will seem like the truth.
