Understanding more about Hypnotherapy for Public Speaking

Like all animals,we as human beings have evolved ways to help us protect ourselves from danger and external threats. When we feel under threat, our bodies react by releasing certain hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol, which can be helpful. These hormones:

  • make us feel aware and alert, so at the point of danger, we can react more appropriately

  • make our hearts beat faster, quickly sending blood to where it's needed most.

After we feel the threat has passed and we feel safe again, our bodies release other hormones to help our muscles relax. This can sometimes cause us to shake.

This is commonly called the 'fight, flight or freeze' response – it's something that happens automatically in our bodies, and we have no control over it. The problem is as we've all encountered that the threat may not be real at all. If we look at Public Speaking there isn't a direct threat to our body, but our idea of our social sense of self may feel under threat.

The Brain and Anxiety

Help with Hypnotherapy for Public Speaking

Feeling Anxious is a complex emotion that can be described as a feeling of apprehension or fear about the future, often accompanied by physical symptoms such as increased heart rate, sweating, and muscle tension. In the context of psychology, anxiousness and some anxiety, is considered a normal and adaptive response to stress or danger, but when it becomes chronic or excessive, it can interfere with daily life.

The brain structures involved in anxiety include the amygdala, which is responsible for processing emotions, particularly fear, and the prefrontal cortex, which is involved in decision-making and regulating emotional responses. The amygdala plays a crucial role in the fear response by triggering the release of stress hormones, such as cortisol and adrenaline, and activating the sympathetic nervous system, which leads to physical symptoms of anxiety.

The nervous system also plays a key role in anxiety, with the sympathetic nervous system responsible for the "fight or flight" response, and the parasympathetic nervous system responsible for calming the body down after a stressful event. In individuals with anxiety disorders, the sympathetic nervous system may become overactive, leading to chronic stress and heightened anxiety symptoms. This may involve repetetive thoughts about a subject matter that we peerccieve as giving us Anxiety.

Overall, anxiety is a complex emotion that involves a range of psychological, brain, and nervous system factors. Understanding these factors can help individuals with anxiety develop effective coping strategies and treatment approaches.

How can Hypnotherapy for Public Speaking work for me?

Can Hypnotherapy for Public Speaking help me?

The anxiety that creates this fear of Public Speaking or performing often seems like a battle; when part of our unconscious is creating this feeling. The reason may or may not be known at a conscious level. This struggle can be played out over and over again in our mind in specific locations or contexts. Although at other times, it can be all-consuming and seem to be constant. We as human beings obviously do not enjoy the feeling of being anxious and try naturally to control or resist this feeling; we also tend to externalise the feeling, meaning we feel as if something is taking over us at these times. We need to recognise that everything we feel, good or bad, is generated by our unconscious processes and is just part of us that strives for the need to feel safe.

This is where Hypnotherapy for anxiety can really work wonders. By using Hypnotherapy and other therapies such as NLP, we can really help to reset the nervous system and get to a point where we are reacting in accordance with our environment and not our fears. The most common two words I hear in my office is the WHAT IF pattern; even if you don't use those words, if you are experiencing anxiety with a fear of Public Speaking, then to some degree, you are unconsciously running this patterns.  So, if you would like to have a different experience around Anxiety, then please know that I have helped many, many people completely overcome the fear of Public Speaking in all different walks of life.
