Compulsions & Obsessions

What is  OCD

Nearly all Obsessive thoughts can start out as what might seem seem like a good idea at some level of consciousness. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder that is characterised by intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviours (compulsions) . The individual can be significantly affected by their quality of life as it can be very draining and upsetting. it can interrupt life at many levels, work, school and social activities. Obsessions and compulsions can also lead to anxiety disorder, leading to a change in life habits and isolation, which can be very distressing.

Common OCD behaviour may include:

  • Avoidance of places, people or things that trigger obsessions

  • Excessive hand-washing, cleaning or showering

  • Repeated checking of appliances, door locks or car brakes

  • rearranging and moving items to create a certain order

  • Needing to touch things a certain number of times

  • Counting and tapping, or repeating words or phrases

  • Obsessive thoughts about germs and contamination

  • Anxiety about making mistakes.

How can Hypnotherapy
for Obsessive & Compulsive thoughts help

The unconscious mind is responsible for our automatic behaviours and patterns; it's orientated towards survival, and it’s the part of our mind that controls things like our breathing and heart rate. It’s also where our emotions and memories are stored. The unconscious mind is mighty and can override our conscious intentions and be very difficult to change using traditional psychological therapies such as CBT. In the conscious mind, the unconscious doesn’t think logically; it just reacts to things based on our past experiences and creates emotions. So, if we’ve experienced a moment in the past where we have felt anxiety and fear, then when we come into contact with it again, even if there’s no logical reason to feel that way, we can react in ways that we don't want to. This is why obsessive-compulsive disorder can be so difficult to treat using traditional methods because the unconscious has registered a threat. However, hypnosis and Hypnotherapy can be used to bypass the conscious mind by using relaxation techniques and directly access the subconscious mind. This makes OCD hypnotherapy an incredibly effective tool for change in treating OCD.

How does Hypnotherapy for OCD work?

Learn more about hypnotherapy
for OCD.

Hypnosis works by accessing the unconscious mind, where our patterns of behaviours and emotions eminate from. I aim to guidethe client deep relaxation and then make suggestions that are designed to help you change the way you think and behave. These ideas of difference can be about anything that will help you overcome your repeated stuck thoughts, such ashelping to change the way you think about your obsessions or breaking the cycle of compulsions.

Hypnotherapy can be an effective tool in treating obsessive-compulsive disorder because it can help to:

  1. Breaking old patterns of thoughts and behaviours

  2. Reduce anxiety and stress

  3. Building different beliefs and self-esteem

  4. Create motivation to change

  5. Bring in new ways of thinking and behaving

Many of us have times in our lives when we seem to struggle to shake off unwanted behaviours. The problem lies deep within the unconscious mind; ironically, this part of us is carrying out our wishes, and the unconscious intention is to take us away from pain and seeks assurance and control. Hypnotherapy and some of the other therapies I employ can really help to create change at the unconscious level. Helping us to let go of perceived patterns of control and trying to organise our world that generate unwanted emotions. Consciously, we know what behaviours we need to drop, but unless we access the unconscious drivers, they can be difficult to change by just using our rational thoughts. We need to work with the feeling state generated to elicit real change and a fantastic way to do this is employing the use of Hypnotherapy. So, if you recognise some of these traits and you feel trapped, please don't hesitate to contact me
